Homeschoolers

The Museum provides an excellent educational opportunity for homeschoolers. The Museum offers two ways for parents of homeschoolers to expose their children to the study of Natural History: Homeschoolers’ Tours and Homeschoolers’ Workshops.

Homeschoolers’ Tour

For homeschoolers who wish to visit the Museum and tour the exhibits, we encourage their parents to call us at 417-883-0594 and make a reservation for a Homeschooler’s Tour. The Tour will include a guided tour of the exhibits at the Museum as well as a lecture and/or activities that are scheduled for that day.

Once you have made your reservation, you can download pre-visit materials from our website. Pre-visit materials include informative charts about our exhibits and teaching suggestions that will make your visit more productive for your group. Post-visit materials will be given to you at the completion of your visit.

Tour fees: $4 per child; free for adult chaperones. We will arrange tours for 10 or more students at a time. For students age 5 through 7, the Museum requires a minimum of one adult for every five students. For students age 8 through 14, the Museum requires one adult for every ten students.

Homeschoolers’ Workshop

The Museum conducts monthly workshops for homeschoolers, on the 3rd Friday of every month. These 2 hour workshops provide in-depth knowledge of the topic being covered, as well as structured hands-on activity. At the completion of the workshop, each student will get take-home materials that they can keep.

Ages

Homeschool Workshops are for students ages 7-14. All ages will be in the same classroom, but separated by age at different tables.

Times

Each workshop runs from 10 am to 11:30 am and from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
