The Museum of the Missouri Institute of Natural Science strives to provide diverse educational opportunities for patrons of all ages, from students in schools in and around Springfield to homeschoolers, adults and seniors from Missouri and other states.

While we strive to make our exhibits exciting and interesting, we are also working on making resources available to teachers that focus on the National Science Education Standards as outlined by the National Research Council. We encourage you to browse our website and review the educational materials we have. If you would like to see materials that are specific to the needs of your students, please contact us and we'd be happy to discuss them with you.

Teacher Resources

We encourage you to review our Pre-Visit Materials section before bringing your group to the Museum for a Tour. The materials in this section provide suggestions and themes that teachers/parents can follow, to make your group’s visit to the Museum more informative, interesting and educational.

The Museum provides an excellent educational opportunity for homeschoolers. The Museum offers two ways for parents of homeschoolers to expose their children to the study of Natural History: Homeschoolers’ Tours and Homeschoolers’ Workshops.

The Missouri Institute of Natural Science offers a variety of lectures at the Museum.

Indoor Fossil Hunting

Our Activity Center allows kids to get their hands dirty and ‘hunt’ for fossils in wooden trays. You don't have to be a professional paleontologist to hunt for fossils!

Birthday Parties at the Museum!

Host your child's next birthday at the Museum! Have a birthday blast at the Museum for your child aged 5-14.

Fossil Collecting

You don’t have to be a certified paleontologist to hunt for fossils! Behind the Institute is hilly terrain that is a good location for finding fossils. Visit the Museum and for a fee of $5 per person, you get permission valid for one exciting day of fossil hunting!
